Ramblings of a crazy old lady

various thoughts and happenings in an old lady's everyday life

CURRENT EVENTS

images62Q85HCRIt has been a while since I wrote in this blog. Partly because I lost heart in it for a while, and partly because I have been processing world events and especially events closer to home. Shootings, Violence, Negativeness, HATE!!!

In trying to bury my head in films and music I came across a TV series I have repeatedly declined to watch. I decided that maybe I should at least visit 1 episode. From then I was hooked. The series ??? “13 Reasons Why”. Being a Psychosocial Rehabilitist (sp) by vocation I found the content really appealed to me. Have you watched it?

From the 1st of the school shootings last year, and I know that last year was not the 1st,  I remarked that the schools, family and neighbors were NOT doing their job. Bullying has to be stopped. And it starts with understanding the individual bully.

Why do they feel the need to cause hurt to make them selves feel better, bigger, more powerful. Why do they need it? Why are they not getting the esteem they need at home or school so they do not have to seek it elsewhere?

Then, at the same time, the people that have been bullied need to be addressed. They need to know that they have power as well.

Hey…. think this all textbook? NOT!! I was the one bullied all 12 years of school. I was a walking skeleton, nickname Birdlegs, 4 eyes, Niggerknot (I’m white btw), bag of bones. I used to walk more than an hour home from school to avoid the bully on the school bus for 6 years. No matter what my parents said, nor the school.

The violence is terrible, horrible!!! But hating the bully solves nothing. Understanding the signs, watching for them in those around you, both bully and bullied. Being there for them. Raise them up to more than they think they can be. Take away the bully’s need to bully, and show the bullied that they have worth, value, power. Talk to your own children that you assume are not participating in the activity. Let them tell you if they have GOOD friends or if they have to fit in. Have to do things they cannot tell you about so they can NOT be bullied.

If you think for one minute that this is confined to schools and gun owners …. look in your family and friends. You will see it live and in color. The husband/boyfriend that orders the girl around instead of loving her and encouraging her. The disrespected male in the pair. The Woman that shows up with bruises often, or hides at home until they are healed. The drinker that is always angry. The person that cannot hold a job long because of their attitude. Where you work, those that order instead of discuss.

Addressing it head on is the absolute wrong thing to do. If you are going to do anything at all it should be to encourage, raise them up make them whole so they have no need to bully, and the one bullied to think well of themselves and show that what is being said is not true or is out of context. etc. Raise them up. LISTEN!!! Find ways to engender TRUST. Some times they just want to be heard. To feel somebody cares enough to just listen. Above all DO NOT JUDGE. You have no idea what you would do if you were in their shoes. Do your part to head off disaster.

If you can save just one person this way, you may well have saved many times that for the future. It is up to US!!! Let’s not let it get to the point that law has to be brought into play.

Made Up Words — Now I Have To Buy A New Dictionary

It just fries my cakes for people to use made up words. Words that have served me well for almost 77 years are not good enough any more. Have to make some new ones …. Are they curtains or a table cloth, or maybe my Sunday best that I have worn out. Or is it just that they lack the knowledge to build a better mouse trap so rely on something they can do sitting on their tushie. Less work … more applause.

Let’s start with “meme”. 1970s: from Greek mimēma ‘that which is imitated’, on the pattern of gene.(https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/meme)

I insert here …. Is there some reason why you cannot do your own work but instead follow the pack and find memes that almost (but not quite) fit the bill.

The New York Times in their article Memes, Dreams and Themes –

Dec 7, 2015 – Themes spread because they have value (notably truth or rational justification), while memes spread despite having no value (is this like gossip?). … The point is that the mechanism of transmission is quite different in the two cases, being more like science in the theme case, in contrast to your typical meme.

Definition of meme

  1. 1:  an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture Memes (discrete units of knowledge, gossip, jokes and so on) are to culture what genes are to life. Just as biological evolution is driven by the survival of the fittest genes in the gene pool, cultural evolution may be driven by the most successful memes. — Richard Dawkins

  2. 2:  an amusing or interesting item (such as a captioned picture or video) or genre of items that is spread widely online especially through social media… the band encouraged fans to make memes to advertise the U.S. release of their EP … — William Gruger The grumpy cat meme frowned its way onto the Internet in September 2012 and never turned its dissatisfied head back. Since then, the image of the cranky cat has grown more and more popular in direct proportion to appearing less and less impressed by fame. — Anastasia Thrift

First Known Use: 1976

From the philosopher Daniel Dennett: “A wagon with spoked wheels carries not only grain or freight from place to place; it carries the brilliant idea of a wagon with spoked wheels from mind to mind.”

Who’s in charge, according to this vision—we or our memes?”
(Read more: http://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/what-defines-a-meme-1904778/#zLyUVzKwSL8jt2Mc.99)

ME ….. I am not only in charge of my words but also my mouth, and as a mature adult am prepared to take responsibility for what comes out of it, or what I type. I am an individual able to use my own brain and unless you are a scholar, I will be in charge of my use of what you say or type.

I doubt you will find anything of enough value here to create a meme from it. If you do … YOU take responsibility for what you use. My blog is not a meme … nor is it a theme nor a dream. If you can’t think of the correct word try reading the Dictionary, Thesaurus, or better yet my favorite all purpose book of words, Reader’s Digest Oxford “Complete Wordfinder”. If it isn’t in there it is NOT a word. DO NOT USE IT!!!!!

Please note: This is only the 1st of many blogs regarding words. If I had the money I would buy every student a Wordfinder and make it a 6 week course every other year until they learn that the word F##k is a verb ONLY, well maybe a preposition as the def. of that is “anything you can do to a cloud” (or maybe a proposition?). It would be great for Hollywood and TV series film makers to have a Wordfinder also, and all authors.

Oh Yeah … The Crazy Old Lady is fed up to here with misuse of words, inventing new ones and using the same ugly word repeatedly. Hmmm, is that word a meme, or a theme, …. orrrrrrr maybe somebody’s dream.

What? I may be crazy, but I’m not dead ….. yet!

So stay tuned for my next pet peeve regarding word usage.

Random thoughts 6.5.17 middle of the night…………..

images62Q85HCRDon’t you just love it when you can’t hold your eyes open any longer, you lay down, and can’t find a place in the bed, your eyes won’t stay closed, you toss and turn until you finally give up. you don’t want to do anything in the hobbies you have going …. crochet, find-a-word, etc. That’s why I am sitting at this keyboard.

Random thoughts

  1. I wonder how this body will stand up to all the aging that’s going on. To be able to tend the garden that I depend on for uncontaminated food. My brother is so good to me, tilling the garden, provided seed, makes sure I have what I need … he even helps me with providing food for the animals that I have rescued. You all know I cook for them.  No vet visits for several years now.     All are healthy … new rescues only took a month or less to make the turn around.
  2. My sister-in-law has become so dear to me. I know she will read this and be embarrassed, but she is my scrabble partner. We used to work more or less together providing care and uplifting to developmentally disabled adults … until I retired. In between each game we walk the property and talk. I can talk with her about almost anything. She too has been really generous with me.
  3. I often wonder what will happen to my rescues if I become severely disabled or if God takes me home. Besides them depending on me … they give me so much love and companionship.
  4. My daughter and son-in-law have provided me with a Smart Phone on their family plan. They carrier is one of the expensive ones that provides really good reception out this far. A few weeks ago, I was without phone service for several days due to a lightning strike at one of the thingys beside the road on the other side of the block. The cell coverage I had then required me to go several blocks away to be able to call out. If there had been a medical emergency or fire or something disastrous and I couldn’t go that far, I would have had a really bad time. My son-in-law was so disturbed that he provided the Smart Phone. The reception is so good that I suggested my neighbor get one. She is really pleased. She falls a lot and if she can get in the habit of carrying the phone with her she will be able to let us know she needs help.
  5. You remember I rescued a Chorkie? Well she is a riot. Every time I sit at the computer, she starts talking. I have no idea why she doesn’t like it but she stops if I get up. Floridaborn has an Err dog … and this Chorkie sounds just like him.
  6. I finally got the roach situation under as much control as I think can be gotten, living in Florida. A few scattered here and there now and then. Spray and a hand held vac have made the difference.
  7. Have 3 kinds of Cukes sprouted, several kinds of green beans, including a Giant variety.  The seeds are old and not all are sprouting so when I prepped the tank for the carrots I decided to just sow them and sprinkle soil on top of the seeds. I figured that most of them wouldn’t sprout …. hmmm …. you can guess what happened. It looks like all of them sprouted. They are a green carpet.  Have peanuts in the ground and not all of them sprouted. Has the same issue with the tomatoes, but managed to get 11 growing well, some of them are the paste tomatoes that I prefer. Tomorrow I will seed out some salad tomatoes an hope for some healthy ones.
  8. Remember the kittens born in my bed? Mama cat took them out and under the house when they were 4 days old. She brought them out 3 days ago. They are more than 6 weeks old and she doesn’t appear to be trying to ween them.
  9. You know … it is hard living alone … but after having someone living with me and having to give them notice to move out … I just don’t want to give up doing things my way again. I guess I have become squirrely in my aging. I just want to do what I want to do without caring about what anyone thinks. I don’t have to worry about my privacy, my entire house is NOW private.

Well the errrrr-Chorkie is becoming more insistant that I quit and go to bed.

My Wonderful Night 4.22.17

images62Q85HCRI sent this via email this morning to a select list of family and friends. Before I post this it will include some excerpts from their replies. As you read them you will see why they are “Select”. God has blessed me overly with the kind of people in my life that “lift me up”.

canstock6780561

3:18 AM – dogs and cats wake me up to what I thought was fight on my bed. I came to, ready to hang them by their ears on the clothesline until daylight.  Surprise!!!

canstock13246302

Something none of these pets had ever experienced was happening at hip position on and in my bed. The stub-tailed kitty had just had the 1st of 4 babes she would present before 5:30 am. Got everyone but her away from the MESS. … and proceeded to stay awake and try to minimize the damage to the bed as much as possible. When all had been dried and warmed by mommy kitty I placed them in a dry box bed and took them out to the front porch. Once they were settled out there I stripped the bed, placed all in washer and put clean and dry on the bed.  THEN … how exciting … I went back to sleep until just before 8AM.

litter 1

All babes are variations on mommy’s coloring, 2 with tails and 2 without. Sex?  Didn’t look.

NOW I will finish eating and then will hang the sheets out to dry in the sun.

I am humbly reminded that tho my life is not without it’s hurdles it is also littered profusely with blessings both great and tiny. Witness 4 very tiny fuzzy things without blemish, that survived birth in my bed, watched over by other 4 legged angels.

reply from my “sis”: Now THAT is a blog post! What a way to wake up! You’re already sick and didn’t need the additional work. Suddenly, your family went from 4 dogs and a couple of cats to 4 more cats.

my answer: One of the ones with tails has a beautiful pattern and is quite dark at this time.

reply from one of my brothers: What a neat way to see the grace and perfection of God’s hand in the universe..

my answer: I began teaching the kids at a very young age about the birds and the bees and God’s part in it, by using the cats and kittens and dogs and pups.  They could ask as many questions as they needed until they had their answers … without embarrassment .. and as breeding the 4 leggeds has been a part of their life the education presented itself often and as their minds grew their questions were answered easily.

God is so good at giving us ways and means to teach with … we just have to be in tune with Him enough to recognize it.  There is always some way to correct whatever mistake you made, or an omission, by using what God has given us to do it with.

This is just a sampling of the way my friends and family look at life. And when I remember to think about things, they know that I take life as a series of blessings, learning experiences. I am not the only one that learns from the happenings in my life. Others around me do … we don’t … either of us …. realize it, until much later when it is time to put what we learned to use.

Update 4.25.17. Everything is going well. Mom, kitties, and family are doing great.

Subject: HARD ON ILLEGALS?

The following was written by Tom O’Malley, a US citizen who was a Director with S.W. BELL in Mexico City:

I spent five years working in Mexico.  I worked under a tourist visa for three months and could legally renew it for three more months.  After that, you were working illegally.  I was technically illegal for three weeks waiting on the FM3 approval.

During that six months our Mexican and U.S. attorneys were working to secure a permanent work visa called a ‘FM3’.  It was in addition to my U.S. passport that I had to show each time I entered and left the country.  Barbara’s was the same, except hers did not permit her to work.

To apply for the FM3, I needed to submit the following notarized originals (not copies):

1. Birth certificate for Barbara and me.

2. Marriage certificate.

3. High school transcripts and proof of graduation.

4. College transcripts for every college I attended and proof of graduation.

5. Two letters of recommendation from supervisors for whom I had worked for at least one year.

6. A letter from the St. Louis Chief of Police indicating that I had no arrest record in the U.S. and no outstanding warrants and was “a citizen in good standing”.

7.Finally, I had to write a letter about myself that clearly stated why there was no Mexican citizen with my skills and why my skills were important to Mexico.

We called it our ‘I am the greatest person on Earth’ letter.  It was fun to write.

All of the above were in English that had to be translated into Spanish and also be certified as legal translations and our signatures notarized.  It produced a folder about 1.5 inches thick with English on the left side & Spanish on the right.

Once they were completed, Barbara and I spent about five hours, accompanied by a Mexican attorney, touring Mexican government office locations where we were photographed and fingerprinted at least three times at each location, and we remember at least four locations where we were  instructed on Mexican tax, labor, housing and criminal law and told that we were required to obey their laws or face the consequences.

We could not protest any of the government’s actions or we would be committing a felony.  We paid out four thousand dollars in fees and bribes to complete the process.  When this was done we could legally bring in our household goods that were held by U.S. Customs in Laredo, Texas.

This meant we had to rent furniture in Mexico while awaiting our goods.  There were extensive fees involved here that the company paid.

We could not buy a home and were required to rent at very high rates and under a contract which was in compliance with Mexican law.

We were required to get a Mexican driver’s license.  This was an amazing process. The company arranged for the licensing agency to come to our headquarters location with their photography and fingerprint equipment and the laminating machine.  We showed our U.S. license, were photographed and fingerprinted again and issued the license instantly after paying out a six dollar fee.  We did not take a written or driving test and never received instructions on the rules of the road.  Our only instruction was to never give a policeman your license, if stopped and asked. We were instructed to hold it against the inside window away from his grasp.  If he got his hands on it you, would have to pay ransom to get it back.

We then had to pay and file Mexican income tax annually using the number of our FM3 as our ID number.  The  company’s Mexican accountants did this for us and we just signed what they prepared.  It was about twenty legal size pages annually.

The FM3 was good for three years and renewable for two more after paying more fees.

Leaving the country meant turning in the FM3 and certifying we were leaving no debts behind and had no outstanding legal affairs (warrants, tickets or liens) before our household goods were released to customs.

It was a real adventure and if any of our Senators or Congressmen went through it once, they would have a different attitude toward Mexico.

The Mexican government uses its vast military and police forces to keep its citizens intimidated and  compliant.  They never protest at their capitol or government offices, but do protest daily in front of the United States Embassy.  The U.S. Embassy looks like a strongly reinforced fortress and during most protests the Mexican military surrounds the block with their men standing shoulder to shoulder in full riot gear to protect the Embassy.  These protests are never shown on U.S. or Mexican TV. There is a large public park across the street where they do their protesting.  Any issue might precipitate a protest, such as proposed law changes in California or Texas which affect Mexican nationals living there.

Please feel free to share this with everyone who thinks we are being hard on the illegals.

Well Yeah!!

images62Q85HCRHere I was … working at the sink and counter …. putting up food for the freezer, making dog and cat food … dog tired… wishing I was done already … from my computer comes cyberbuddy saying … “I could just sit here and watch you work all day” … How about that for the right thing at the right time? It was just the thing to lighten my load by giving me a chuckle.

Now about the dogs … dang ’em !!… Sunday my sis-in-law and I filled in ,and covered with a good size rock,… the hole one or 2 of them had dug under the Gazebo. There I was thinking that the hole digging there was well and truly taken care of. That’s what I get for thinking…..this morning they dug another hole under it on the other side of the steps. I thought it was my Lurcher as the huge girl has spent the better part of the year digging wherever, whenever, she can. Surprise … it was the Chorkie!! All 6 or 7 lbs of her ….She responds fairly well to a good firm voice! So the wicked witch of the county spoke FIRMLY to her about digging … filled it in and planted another small slab on that spot. DARED her to even look at it!! images9G6VROHMWe will see what happens now. The reason I thought it was the Lurcher was that I saw her backing out of the 1st one. Guess she was inspecting and found she couldn’t turn around and so had to back out.

This is the food chart for making dog food.

The protein needs to be at least 1/3 of the overall volume. I usually choose 4 or 5 vegetables, 2 fruits, and 2 of the 3rd column to make up 2/3s. Because I usually wind up with the 3rd column sticking to the bottom of the pot I cook the 3rd column separately and also the protein and mix it all together when done. Then I grind it all up and freeze it in daily portions. I make anywhere from 10 to 14 days worth at a time.

Cat food stuff        house_cat_tn

Cooked poultry Pumpkin Cantaloupe Rice Sunflower oil
Meat cooked Peas Bananas Oatmeal Fish oil
Fresh Fish cooked carrots Apple Rice Meat broth
Cooked eggs, scrambled or hard-boiled, asparagus or broccoli, Blueberries
Cheese green beans Melon
winter squash
chopped greens

Again …. protein is at least 1/3 of the volume. Only use 1 item out of the next 2 columns to begin with … green beans is the best 1st choice. Again cook separately and then mix and grind. Freeze in daily portions

I have decided to share the above information with you as My animals are the talk of the neighborhood for being in great health. They do not see a vet as they haven’t been sick in any way.

I caution you to do your best to find food for them that has not been subjected to GMO’s or glyphosates (such as Roundup) These things are why I no longer buy canned food. They are extremely detrimental to your pet’s health. BTW ….. you should avoid them for yourself as well.

Speaking of which … I have a start on the garden … and the above issues are the reason I do everything I am able to raise my own.

An Impressive Email

I received this in my email this morning. Since I was impressed enough hat It keeps lurking in my toughts I decided to blog it.

SUBJECT: To special friends

Please take time to read this !!! WOW!!

THIS OLD AIR FORCE CHIEF HAS A FEW SOLID WORDS.

By: George Roof, Chief Master Sergeant (Retired), US Air Force,Taxidermist in Magnolia, Delaware (born in Lexington, SC).

Because I am a “lifer” in the military, I’ve seen the impact of a president more than many of you can imagine. I enlisted with LBJ and saw just what a Democrat clusterflock was all about. I went to Vietnam and saw how we were constantly and incessantly bombarded with micromanagement from Washington that got thousands of military people killed.

I wonder sometimes if I’ll get to heaven, but if I go to hell, I’m sure I’ll still be a few hundred floors above that bastard Robert McNamara, LBJ, John Kerry, Jane Fonda, and yes, even the “hero”, John McCain.

After Johnson “abdicated” rather than having his ass waxed, I lived through Nixon who was hawkish but allowed the generals (and there WERE a few real generals back then versus now) run the show. He was so out of touch that he never knew North Vietnam was about to surrender when the Paris Accord was presented.

Only God could help us after Gerald Ford was beaten by Jimmy Peanuts who’d been funded by Saudi money. The military was turned into Section 8 and even the White House suffered the austerity.

Then the light began to shine and Ronald Reagan swept into the fray. He not only loved the country and the military, they loved him back. Esprit d’corps was off the scale during his presidency. The Liberals were slowly turning into socialists, however, and about this time all the draft dodgers of the 1960’s who’d been given amnesty by Jimmy Peanuts were turning out college graduates with degrees in socialism.

Bush 1 was an enigma from the CIA and though he never did much either way, he NEVER DID MUCH EITHER WAY.

Welcome to Bill Clinton. Clinton spent most of his two terms wagging the dog and creating the Oral Office, sending a bomber to blow up Quaddafi’s tent and killing a goat or two, while allowing the UN to set up the infamous Black Hawk Down situation. He made history by becoming only the second president to be impeached.

I actually felt sorry for Bush 2. He was doomed to infamy from the start. He thought most of America was still the ‘rah’ patriots of WWII when they were simply socialists waiting to feed him to the sharks.

Then there came the Manchurian Candidate with a faked (OK Democrats, let’s say _“of questionable origin” _to assuage your PC brains) birth certificate, who’d gotten a free ride through college under a foreign student exemption, and whose college records and complete life history had been sealed. (We know more about Thomas Jefferson’s bastard children than we do about Obama, Michelle, OR their two kids.) From his inaugural address, he slandered America and within days had begun to encourage dissension of the races as well as slandering police who “acted stupidly.” That was mild to the crap that would come in doubling the national debt from what had been built by ALL THE PREVIOUS PRESIDENTS COMBINED, feeding us bullshit about how Muslims built this country, and nationalizing American industries. Fueled by George Soros’ money and using the Air Force fleet as his personal charters, he appointed malcontents, muslims and traitors into positions of authority. He trashed the Constitution by installing “czars” (interesting he chose a title like that) to bypass Congressional authority. By that time, Congress was completely corrupt on both sides of the aisle. No one had balls to impeach this charlatan.

Mysteriously, the lone outspoken conservative Supreme Court Justice suddenly dies in his sleep at an Obama pal’s hunting lodge and the Supreme Court is evenly split.

Finally, Congress shows some balls and rejects Obama’s nomination. The Libtards aren’t worried because the fix is in.

Soros has paid demonstrators to cause turmoil at all the Republican gatherings, Obama concedes that illegal aliens should vote as they won’t be prosecuted, and Soros-manufactured voting machines are caught switching votes in certain precincts.

Hillary has cheated her way to the nomination and her lies are completely ignored by the brainwashed minions of sycophants who follow her.

But a shocking thing happened on the way to the forum. Middle America has had enough and although the pollsters and the pipers tried to convince them not even to bother to vote, they were fed up with the denizens of the swamp. It was time. Florida was designated a_“swing”_ state ignoring that all those old retirees living in St. Petersburg, and the fed up Cuban Americans of Miami weren’t interested in their platform. Ohio and Pennsylvania, where coal production was blacklisted and where Obama had ridiculed them for_“clinging to their _Bibles and their guns,” _lay awaiting this supposed _“landslide”_ Hillary vote and creamed it.

The Socialist world of the Democratic Party disintegrated. An American who expressed unbridled love of country and respect for police, firemen, and military steam rolled across the heartland and the liberals realized their scheme was trashed. A CONSTITUTIONALIST would be nominated to the Supreme Court and if the hag who’d claimed to retire if Trump were elected would actually leave, the Supreme Court would have a massive majority of CONSTITUTIONALISTS for the next 40-50 years.

Now, the same party who had ridiculed Trump on his comments about the election being rigged, started screaming that the election was rigged. They even advocated having the election repeated. They created mobs that burned and pillaged, stopped traffic, threatened murder, battery and rape of Trump supporters, and became the anarchists that the socialist dream thrives upon. They run like castrated pigs for safe zones and use diaper pins as their national symbol. This is exactly what happens when political correctness takes over, and participation trophies are awarded to everyone. They can’t conceive how disgusting and subservient they have become.

Donald Trump may NOT be the best person for the job, but he’s such a welcome respite from the candy-assed wimps who’ve been running the swamp that it’s refreshing to see. At the very least, Donald Trump derailed the Socialist train and bought us precious time. If he only does half of what he’s promised, we’ll still be legions ahead of where Obama has dragged us. Already countries who held us in contempt are lining up to be found in the favor of America.

Pass this on if you agree!

So, for you liberal lurkers and you half-assed fence-sitters, kiss off. You had your big hurrah and now your party is over. For you staunch Republicans in office, don’t gloat so much yourselves. You’ve been put on notice by the American people that we’re fed up with ALL YOU BASTARDS, and if you don’t start putting America first, you do so at your own peril. You might want to buy a copy of George McGovern’s autobiography and see how shocking and humbling it can be for a professional politician to have to try to find legitimate work once he falls from grace.

This election was pure, unadulterated AMERICAN. Hillary got beaten and AMERICA WON THE ELECTION. You can claim he’s not _“your president” _all you want, but unless you forfeit your American citizenship, YES HE IS! Go cry a river some place where they need water!

2nd week of March 2017

stock-illustration-11058957-old-lady-with-laptop (369x380)Hmmm …. It looks like I have the German Roach population almost eradicated … or mostly under control. It has been quite a battle. I know my brain is larger than theirs and my cognitive thinking is also more advanced … however … these boogers have run me more of a race than the most intense Chess game. another 30 days I should know if I have won.

This morning I started at about 7AM … realized that I was supposed to make pet food yesterday and forgot …. started the dog food for the next 10+ days….. hurrying through some of it so I could grind enough for this morning. It is now 9:30ish and I have fed them and myself, and the cooked food is done and cooling. I had to hurry with portions of it so I could feed them today.

A thought or so on the political stuff. I don’t usually do this nor talk about religion .. but … There are some things on my mind. I cannot remember so much fear of a POTUS since I was 11 or so … maybe 12 since the elections are every 4 years. We have had some doozies that during their terms as Prez did a lot of damage to how we, the people, have to live. Now we have a man that can and prolly will clean it up, at least make it better. NOW understand I have never really liked Trump as a person … but you have to realize that it takes someone with his way of thinking to pull our irons out of the fire. The very fact that the major corrupters are attacking him speaks to their fear. My guess is that he is doing something right … to snatch our country from their greedy hands and put the people of our country back in charge as much as is possible. We gave Obama 2 terms … why can’t we give Trump more than 2 months before crucifying him. It’s stupid to jump in with both feet this early in the game.

And now on to my gardening … decided to plant as much of each as I could find room for. I already have Broccoli, peanuts, Giant Beans, pole beans, Early peas, field peas, Canary Island melons, and tomatoes in the ground. Yes I will plant some more in about 3 weeks .. and some about every 3 weeks or so until mid May. Picked 2 heads off the Broccoli I planted in the fall. I planted them at different times so the heads will come in at staggered times. Oh I forgot I have 6 Sweet potato slips in and 3 more to plant. That should give me quite a few come harvest. Will still be starting slips to plant yet.

The little Chorkie I rescued has become the herd dog. She is the youngest and has appointed herself herd leader. Amazing … there has been NO fighting between them at all. What a sight to watch the largest, Willow, and the Chorkie running down the driveway together and the Chorkie winning the race. Willow is a Lurcher .. an Australian mix that crosses a sight hound and a scent hound. Preferably a Greyhound, Whippet, Saluki, or Afghan as the sight hound. This makes them racers and very fast … and Willow (the largest) is very fast … and the Chorkie is faster. The 3 of them, Lurcher, Dachshund, and Chorkie take great care of the little toy Chihuahua, Lyla, inside or out. Never mind that she explodes on any of them if she thinks she is in danger from their feet. All in all, They make quite a family and conspire to push Mom around.

I Am A Listener

granny reports

I have always had a talent for listening to people.  My mom always told me that Libra fit me perfectly because I would see both sides of an argument and try to make peace.  I can usually even “hear” how a person is feeling when reading a text or Facebook message.  But, that only works if I have known the person for a while.  Then, I can sense the mood and read between the lines.

Sometimes, it’s very hard to put into words what you are feeling and what you really want to say.  I seem to be able to fill in the emotional blanks and figure out what is going on in the heads of those who speak to me.  Yes, I am bragging a bit!  I can do that once in a while, right?

When listening to someone, you can’t just hear their words and take them at…

My Friday morning random thoughts

laughing-cartoon-grandma-17965459Today is garbage pick-up day; recycle and non-recycle. Since I have been re-organizing and cleaning the out-buildings, I had a lot of non-recycle. It makes me sad that our area does not re-cycle Styrofoam. Most of my pick-up consists of recycle. I compost everything that can be composted. I have to thank my brother, again, for helping me to set up my compost station. At any rate my non-recycle, non-compost, consists of so little that if I don’t close the can lid with the strings hanging out the men think the can is empty.

I have cleaned and organized the larger of my out-buildings for the 1st time in over 3 years. This building has my spare fridge and the small deep freeze plus a lot of work counters that were here before me. it is now clean again and ready for a project I have yet to dream up.

Attached to the backyard side of that building is a covered slab with another work counter. I have the defunct upright freezer out there serving as a pantry. Needless to say …. I have had to empty, clean, and spray it before putting everything back in it. Wow! did I ever find a load of stuff in there that was severely out of date and will be sent to the compost bin today.

So after I open and empty all of it to compost I will have containers to wash and put away or throw away as needed. . After that I will clean and reorganize the area for future use again.

The menagerie hangs about with tongues hanging and tails wagging … waiting for something to drop … either to eat or to play with, …. making a mess of the yard. The new rescue, Bella, is settling in quite well. She is still a little skittish but is calming a little more each day. It is probably a good thing that I rarely know what previous owners have done to these little ones … I might be blogging from prison. I don’t turn a hair at justice done, … but traumatizing defenseless humans and animals is NOT JUSTICE!! ……….and violence to either teaches them nothing but fear … thus NOT changing the behavior.

Have made calls to try to work on the issue of no medical 1st responders in our area. Have been told to attend county commission meetings and tackle it there. So will see when the next one is and how to get a turn to present an issue. I’ve been told that our State turned down federal funding for whatever reason and so now we operate emergency stuff n State funding alone. I won’t argue with the State’s decision except if it is going to curtail our ability to be safe …….. then I take issue with that.

The feeling I get from all these home organization issues getting done is not easy for me to put into words. The closest I can come so far is “I am taking back my life”. This little CLEAN/Organized corner is mine. …. and on to the next one.

To this end my sis-in-law and I have scheduled 6 hour scrabble play every Sunday. It is free, (cheaper than therapy), and gets us together for catch-up from the week. My brother brings their dogs so they have an outing and a free run in my yard with all new smells each week. My dogs love having visitors of their own.

I have 37 broccoli plants growing strong and well in varying stages of maturity. Hopefully this will mean they don’t all need harvesting at once. The Kale is doing as well in the same stages. BTW am still picking on last years Kale. It is leggy and either today or tomorrow will stake them. Have also several successful slips of sweet potato of a Georgia variety that grows the size I like. Have them putting on roots in water for planting in a few more days, and several other pieces putting out growth to make more slips. By this time next month I will have started the tomatoes to be ready to pot out by the end of March.
